How to Wear Bracelets?

A well-chosen bracelet can emphasize elegance and add a unique style to any outfit. However, if you’ve ever shopped at a jewelry store, you know how challenging choosing the right bracelet can be given the wide variety of designs available for women. To make this task easier and help you narrow down your options, this article will guide you on how to choose the perfect bracelet. As you read on, you’ll learn how to match metal bracelets to your skin tone, and we’ll also share a few simple tricks on how to pair bracelets with simple clothing—either to create a minimalist look or to build original styles in a more creative way.

Which wrist should you wear a bracelet on?

Before we get into choosing the right bracelet, let’s answer a question that troubles many of our clients: Which wrist should you wear a bracelet on? Our answer is always: Whichever wrist feels more comfortable and natural to you. There are no set rules about which wrist is correct. Some may try to impose ideologies, but the truth is, always trust your intuition and comfort. For example, if you wear your watch on your left wrist and it feels uncomfortable to wear a bracelet on the same hand, simply wear it on your right wrist. Don’t forget—feminine intuition rules.

But let’s get back to the topic…

Choosing a bracelet for your skin tone

There are 3 main skin tone categories:

  • People with warm tones have yellow, peach, or golden skin. They tan more easily than others. The veins on the inside of their arms appear greenish. If you have a warm skin tone, opt for gold or gold-plated bracelets. Golden hues—especially yellow or rose gold—will add a warm glow to your skin. Bracelets with colored accents, such as those with stones in brown, yellow, peach, red, burgundy, or olive, will highlight your skin’s warmth. That’s why people with warm tones are recommended to wear bracelets (as well as pendants, earrings, and rings) with smoky quartz, citrines, garnets, and peridot. These stones will look even more beautiful on your skin when combined with gold or gold plating.
  • People with cool tones typically have pink, red, or bluish skin. They often burn in the sun. Their veins appear blue. If your skin tone is cool, silver or white gold bracelets will look better on you. Silver jewelry looks stunning on light, cool skin tones. Choose bracelets with gemstones in green, blue, burgundy, purple, or pink. Silver bracelets with emeralds, blue sapphires, topaz, and tanzanite will look amazing on a cool skin tone.
  • Neutral skin tone is a mix of both of the above. These people may sometimes burn before tanning. Amethyst or pink opal bracelets can enhance their natural glow.
  • If you can’t clearly tell whether your veins are blue or green, you probably have a mixed skin tone. If so, you can experiment with different metals as well as natural stone colors. People with this skin type tend to look good in nearly any color and metal combination.

A bracelet as an accessory for a minimalist outfit

For work or school, it's better to go with small, functional bracelets. Instead of a flashy piece, it’s better to accent formal wear with a small classic piece—such as a solid bangle or a simple bracelet. If you want something a bit more eye-catching, go for a bracelet with a gemstone or other decorative element.

Bracelets for a romantic evening

A beautiful evening outfit for a romantic dinner calls for a bit more glamour than everyday clothing. You can achieve that with a lovely gemstone bracelet or by wearing two or three sparkly bracelets on one wrist.

Bracelets for special occasions

For special events like weddings or corporate banquets, it’s worth wearing something truly elegant. For such occasions, more substantial silver or gold bracelets with large gemstones are ideal. Paired with an evening outfit—usually made from satin, suede, or silk—these bracelets will make a dazzling impression.
